Argus uptime overview
Argus watches public URLs and endpoints on a schedule and tells you when something is unreachable.
Use Argus for customer-facing sites and APIs. Use Monitoring for CPU and memory inside the cluster.
Why it matters
- You learn about downtime before customers file tickets.
- History shows whether an outage was a blip or a pattern.
- Alerts route failures to the right channel.
What to do
- Add an uptime check for each public URL that matters.
- Wire alerting for production checks.
- Pause checks during planned maintenance so you do not page the team.
Naming and mistakes
- Argus is the product name — do not rename it to “uptime tool” in your own docs.
- Do not use Argus as a substitute for in-cluster CPU/memory charts.
- A check without alerting only helps if someone watches the dashboard.
