Argus uptime overview

Argus watches public URLs and endpoints on a schedule and tells you when something is unreachable.

Use Argus for customer-facing sites and APIs. Use Monitoring for CPU and memory inside the cluster.

Why it matters

  • You learn about downtime before customers file tickets.
  • History shows whether an outage was a blip or a pattern.
  • Alerts route failures to the right channel.

What to do

  1. Add an uptime check for each public URL that matters.
  2. Wire alerting for production checks.
  3. Pause checks during planned maintenance so you do not page the team.

Naming and mistakes

  • Argus is the product name — do not rename it to “uptime tool” in your own docs.
  • Do not use Argus as a substitute for in-cluster CPU/memory charts.
  • A check without alerting only helps if someone watches the dashboard.
